You are not alone

A Message from Rabbi Mendel

In the face of rising antisemitism, we need to come together as a community, drawing strength from our unity, shared values and unwavering support for one another. We must respond to this hate with resilience, compassion and courage —both for ourselves and for future generations. You are not alone.

Standing in Solidarity

The Rise of Antisemitism

The Israel-Gaza conflict of 2023 has been described as the most significant assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The ripple effects of this conflict have led to a surge in global antisemitism, with Australia witnessing one of the most significant spikes. Between October and November 2023, antisemitic incidents have risen by a staggering 738%, with reports of threats, hateful graffiti and public celebrations of violence. This has left Jewish communities across the country grappling with fear and anxiety. Locally, this rise has manifested in a number of unsettling ways.

At the Sydney Opera House, large anti-Israel protests created an atmosphere of tension and concern. Major cities saw large demonstrations, where antisemitic chants and threats became disturbingly common. At universities, traditionally considered spaces for open discourse we have seen anti-Israel encampments and verbal harassment, with many Jewish students reporting increased hostility and exclusion. This surge of antisemitism serves as a stark reminder of the challenges we still face.

Through education, awareness and collective action, we can address these threats head-on and offer the necessary support for those impacted. Our strength lies in our ability to stand in solidarity, ensuring that no one stands alone.
